Hey Y’all!
My name is Hope, and I’m so excited to be one of Clear Lake interns for the spring and summer seasons. Now a little bit about me. I’m originally from Walled Lake, Michigan, a little town about 30 mins west on a good day away from Detroit. I graduated from Northern Michigan University with a bachelors in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management in the summer of 2023. Since then I worked at an education center downstate focusing on Elementary education and teamwork building. But I always had a longing to come back to the Upper Peninsula. So I was super grateful to have been told about this job, Which combines my two favorite things: outdoor education and the Upper Peninsula.
Over the first month, I got to teach Landscape Scene Investigators or LSI for short. This class is all about critically thinking about what is happening outside. Focusing on animal evidence and how to find those things out in nature. Stay tuned for a blog post that talks more about this program and the others that happen at Clear Lake Education Center. When teaching, It is so rewarding to help guide kids into enjoying nature.
Working at Clear Lake has given me more of an opportunity to work on Outdoor education and working with elementary and middle school age groups. I never got the chance to before I graduated and being able to has helped me solidify more in my mind that this is an avenue I would like to continue on. I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer where I will now be moving more into the program design and camp care aspects of Clear Lake Education Center.
