Residential Outdoor Education Camps

Camps are held late April to mid-May and again from Labor Day through mid-November. Priority use of the Center is given to returning schools and other education groups.

Each spring and fall about 1,000 students come to CLEC with their schools. Clear Lake Education Center provides a special opportunity for students to spend 3 to 5 days immersed in an outdoor classroom. A variety of classes taught by trained instructors are offered for students in grades 5-12. Schools should provide chaperones as cabin counselors.

All classes enhance the Michigan Framework requirements and offer students a unique hands-on learning experience. During their time at CLEC students gain a strong understanding of the natural and cultural aspects of the Upper Midwest, environmental sciences, and natural resource career opportunities. Through team-building and personal growth activities, students learn the skills and attitudes they'll need to succeed in school and in life. Teachers that accompany schools actively participate in classes with their students.
