Needed: Program Instructors and High Ropes Instructor (Training provided)
The Clear Lake Education Center is looking for high-energy individuals to join our staff for the Spring 2010 season. Applicants should have experience with youngsters K-12 in an outdoor setting, or a strong desire to learn. The Education Center is located 24 miles north of Manistique, MI.
The Center's formal curriculum includes forest ecology, aquatic ecology, fire ecology, orienteering, voyageur history, raptors of the North Woods, insects, archeology and astronomy. The Center also offers a high ropes challenge course, which allows students to expand their individual skills and accomplishments in a series of tests eighteen feet above the ground. Additional activities for the students include swimming, canoeing, fishing, field games (weather permitting), night hikes, and crafts.
Many of the classes include service-learning components. All activities foster an ethic for preserving our environment and team building. All classes are hands-on, application-based, and align with the MI Standards.
Candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be positive role models for students. The staff work and live in a close-knit environment. All staff must complete background checks (which are paid for by the Center). Additional skills, such as water safety instructor or lifeguard certification, are a plus.
Rate of pay is $170 per week. Please contact Mimi Klotz at 906.280.5364 or clearlake@dsisd.k12.mi.us.
